Clara Hung

Hello! I am a Physics MPhil student in the VISIONLab at the University of Cambridge, advised by Professor Sarah Bohndiek. My research explores shortwave infrared spectroscopy and imaging for non-invasive tissue health monitoring. I am grateful to be funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council Ubiquitous Optical Healthcare Technologies (UbOHT) program.

I received my B.A. in Computer Science, with a minor in Physics, from UC Berkeley and conducted computational imaging research in the Computational Imaging Lab, mentored by Leyla Kabuli and Professor Laura Waller. Outside of research, I led the UC Berkeley Society of Women Engineers in science outreach and mentored younger students in the SEED Scholars Honors Program. In the past, I interned with the Camera Systems Simulation team at Apple under Ben Weil and dabbled in some astronomy at the Academia Sinica Institute for Astronomy & Astrophysics with Professor You-Hua Chu.

In the fall, I will begin my PhD in Materials Science & Engineering at Stanford University, supported by the National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship. (And yes, I will still be rooting for Berkeley at the Big Game.)

Outside of academics, I enjoy baking, running, and investigating new coffee shops! I am a big fan of croissants, sunshine, and exploring grocery stores in new countries. I also collect pictures of quirky license plates; you can contribute to my open-source dataset here!
